Kevin Robb
Music Department Director, Intergenerational Big Band Artistic Director & Conductor
Kevin Robb is the Director of Heart of Los Angeles’ Music Program since the beginning of 2022. Kevin brings extensive international experience in arts education to the role, having led music and performing arts programs in both Europe and Central America prior to returning to his Los Angeles roots. He is an enthusiastic proponent of experiential learning. To that end, he sees music as a magnificent vehicle for young people to discover the value of discipline, solidarity, imagination and teamwork. Kevin comments, “Actively learning by doing, students express themselves creatively, take responsibility for their roles, and communicate with an audience. In today’s world that demands instant gratification, our students discover the satisfaction of working towards goals while also experiencing the joy of making music in the present moment. More than ever, creativity and collaboration are key skills for young people, skills that originate through the discipline of music, and transfer to every area of life.”
Kevin holds a Master’s degree in Music from Western Washington University, where he was mentored by jazz legend Chuck Israels, and a Gold Medal from the Bordeaux National Conservatory in France, where he was a student of Jean-Marie Londeix. As a saxophonist, he was named Yamaha™ Performing Artist in 2010. He is also a past Representative of the UK’s Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and is an International Baccalaureate Music Examiner, as well as a Key Teacher for the European ClassBand™ program.
