Angel Mendez Mendoza
Music Scholar in Residence
Angel Mendez was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. His journey in music began when he was 12 years old, after being introduced to the guitar by his older brother. Shortly after being introduced to the guitar, Angel met Mr. Ben Ede, who became his first formal guitar teacher at Heart of Los Angeles throughout middle school and high school. Music became his passion because it is an art where he is able to express himself through sounds and more importantly, he is passionate about music education and sharing his knowledge about music with the youth. Angel has continued his journey in music by playing in various classical guitar ensembles, Rock/Jazz bands, pit orchestras for musicals, and by teaching guitar at non-profit organizations like Kid City Hope Place and at the Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood. He is currently studying for his B.A. in Music Education at UCLA and is the Scholar In-Residence at the Heart of Los Angeles Music Program, where he supports the administration team.
