Heart of Los Angeles serves more than 4,000 students across eight locations, with a main campus in Lafayette Park in the MacArthur Park/Westlake area where we offer a variety of academic and enrichment programs. We also serve the South LA and Watts communities, offering premier visual arts programs.

Athletics

Our after-school programs offer students a chance to dive into basketball, soccer, and football, led by incredible coaches and mentors who inspire personal growth, foster health and fitness, instill athletic discipline, and celebrate true sportsmanship.

Bridges Middle & High School

Bridges supports successful transitions between middle school and high school, with special focus on academics, leadership, and interest exploration.

College and Career Success provides students with support, including academic advising, college access and navigation, professional development, financial aid advising, and in-house scholarship funding.

Music

Music has been a core component of Heart of Los Angeles since its beginning in 1993. Since then, we’ve grown our music curriculum from private and informal lessons provided in partnership with programs like El Sistema to youth and intergenerational orchestras, jazz and rock bands, choirs, chamber ensembles, an intergenerational orchestra, choir and big band, and much more.

Scientific Arts (SciArts)

Our Scientific Arts Program (SciArts) encourages students how to ask questions, experiment, create, and problem-solve using a hands-on approach to diverse modalities.

SmartStart Elementary

SmartStart provides the fundamental building blocks necessary for academic achievement and personal growth, incorporating creative, hands-on learning and collaboration.

Visual Arts

Our programs help LA’s youth channel their creative energy in positive ways through project-based learning and experimentation. By participating in our art programs, youth learn valuable skills that will help them become innovative thinkers and confident leaders.

Partnership Sites

Heart of LA partners with the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) and Koreatown Youth + Community Center (KYCC) to provide academic programs at three FamilySource Centers (FSCs) in high-need areas: Pico Union, Watts, and Southeast LA. FSCs offer comprehensive social, educational, enrichment, employment, and family support services to low-income families. Families can access Heart of LA programs at FSCs by contacting FSC sites directly. For more details and contact information, please refer to the interactive map below.

Additionally, Heart of LA collaborates with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) through the Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP) initiative, providing Visual Arts and College and Career Success programs to ensure equitable access to quality educational opportunities for Black students. We also partner with WLCAC in Watts to offer our Leadership program through the Media Career Pathways Prototype (MCPP) initiative, which helps young people in LA County explore creative careers in gaming, animation, and music production.
