img_01671 Just like every home, HOLA’s kitchen is the place where everyone gathers.

Alex Nataren, HOLA’s Operations Director has been an instrumental part in creating this space. Alex leads a variety of cooking classes to inspire healthy habits while also staying on a budget. All classes are held bilingually to accommodate the diverse needs of HOLA’s community. We’ve opened our kitchen to you by posting some delicious, healthy recipes below!

 

 

Another strong force in our kitcIMG_8309hen, is the “Sandwich Table”. Originating in 1994, when HOLA lived at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, a senior member of the congregation Liz Morgan noticed that many of the youth were going to the church’s food bank to request food. The requests increased quickly and Liz convinced other senior members of the church to donate sandwich supplies to start a “Sandwich Table”. Liz’s Sandwich Table became an instant hit and weekly ritual. Since HOLA moved and began buying the supplies, wonderful mothers have volunteered as the “Sandwich Lady.” And, for the past five years, Señora Lillia, a mother of an HOLA alumnus, is posted at the Sandwich Table in our kitchen, every Thursday

The Kitchen: Chef Alex’s Fruit Smoothie

Perfect for a hot summer day, a quick easy breakfast, or when you just don’t have time to get your daily dose of fruit the old fashioned way. All you need is a blender.
