The goal of the counseling program at HOLA is to help children and teens stay on track with the goals and mission of Heart of Los Angeles. Additionally, the program attempts to support the positive psychosocial development of the high risk children whom HOLA serves.
The counseling program provides evaluation, intervention and referrals for children with learning and behavioral problems, anxiety and depression and family crises. We offer sessions on stress management and support for HOLA’s teenagers. The counseling department is available to parents of our students for support and referrals when appropriate.
Students are usually referred to counseling by the directors of other programs at HOLA. Adolescents are often self-referred. The counselors will evaluate and see students as needed. Counselors also lead groups supporting psychosocial health.
HOLA has academic internships available in Master’s level social work programs (California State University, Los Angeles, USC School of Social Work) and art therapy programs (Loyola Marymount University).
