Veronica’s relationship with HOLA started in the summer of 2007 when she was hired as the Grants Assistant. As part of the fundraising team, she was instrumental in securing funds for HOLA’s many educational, athletic and arts programs. During her time in this position, Veronica had the opportunity to get to know many of HOLA’s families. Her ability to relate well to the parents, her familiarity with the needs of HOLA’s families and her knowledge of community resources helped her become HOLA’s Parent & Community Resource Director in 2010.
Originally from Puerto Rico, she graduated from Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand) and moved to Los Angeles in the late 1980’s. Veronica brings more than 20 years of experience working with Los Angeles-based community-based organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Association, AIDS Project Los Angeles, L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, Pasadena Senior Center and Project Angel Food. Her extensive experience includes developing, implementing and fundraising for health, housing, educational and supportive social services targeted towards underserved communities.
In her spare time, Veronica volunteers as a mentor for high school seniors participating in HOLA’s College Application and Scholarship program. Aside from public service, her other passions include her family, gardening, playing the piano and reading.
HOLA provides underserved youth with exceptional programs in academics, arts and athletics within a nurturing environment, empowering them to develop their potential, pursue their education and strengthen their communities.
