Alvy Johnson Program Coordinator, Ghetto Film School LA

Alvy Johnson holds an MFA in Screenwriting from Columbia University and a BA in English Literature from Brooklyn College. She’s told jokes for as long as she can remember and when she was 16 years old, the Ghetto Film School taught her how to shoot them. Alvy was a graduate of the first class of GFS in 2000. While in her teens, she served as a board member for GFS and went on to work on the producing teams for the program’s thesis films in Rio De Janiero, Belfast and Johannesberg.

As a member of Comedy Central’s writing fellowship program, Alvy was the only participant to have her work featured on The Daily Show. She’s directed several short films and sketches and won a Made in NY Award. She has worked as a copywriter at Comedy Central and in publicity at IFC TV. Alvy’s journey with GFS has come full circle as she now serves as the Program Coordinator of GFS LA.
