Operations Director & Director of Healthy Cooking
Alex was born in Chiapas, Mexico and came to the United States in 1995. Alex learned his sense of community and giving back from his mother, who always offered a meal to a passing traveler or someone in need. When Alex arrived in the States, he was introduced to Immanuel Presbyterian Church, the first home of HOLA. He quickly became very involved at Church and HOLA, and he joined HOLA’s staff 12 years ago. Today Alex oversees all of the maintenance and repairs at HOLA’s four building campus and still finds time to cook Sunday lunch for all of the congregants at the Church.
Alex is also an accomplished chef and runs his own catering business, Mi Mero Mole!, cooking regional authentic cuisine that is not often found on menus in the U.S. Seven years ago, Alex started a cooking program at HOLA that he still runs today. Hundreds of HOLA students have learned the benefits of healthy living, making good food choices, while having fun in the kitchen. Alex earned his degree in Architecture from Autonoma University in Chiapas.
