HOLA on YouTube

HOLA Summer Camps provide children with a community of caring adults, who nurture experiential education that results in self-respect and appreciation for the earth we live in. All of the outcomes β€” self-identity, self-worth, self-esteem, leadership and self-respect β€” build personal competencies. It is our hope that our youth will learn the importance of compassion, contribution, commitment and character!

We want our parents to tell us that at the end of summer, their children are more caring, understand the importance of giving, are more equipped to stand up for what they know is right and are willing to be more responsible. Day camps in arts, athletics, leadership and academic enrichment offer much needed alternatives to neighborhoods plagued with crime and keep teens away from gangs.

Scientific Arts Summer Camp:
Every summer, HOLA’s Scientific Arts Program holds a free Science Camp for youth in grades 5 and up. Weekly themes include Building a City with Minecraft, Lego Mindstorms, and Make: Projectiles. Students can sign up for one camp or all six.

Bridges Students Excel in Mock Trial

During the last week of summer programming, ten Bridges middle school students participated in a mock trial in the courtroom of Federal District Court Judge James Otero. The trial was the culmination of a ten week class led by attorneys from the law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP, including HOLA’s Board President Warren Rissier. During the class, the students learned the ins and outs of preparing for a trial. They worked tirelessly with the attorneys preparing for the big day, writing and developing their opening […]

Play for Peace brings together children, youth and organizations from communities in conflict, using cooperative play to create laughter, compassion and peace. The group was very busy this summer, meeting twice a week for intensive training sessions, learning team-building activities, practicing their facilitation skills and planning for upcoming sessions. The kids had an incredible week of fun and filmmaking, learning all about the art of filmmaking from a group of talented volunteers, including music video directors, teachers and camp counselors.
