Through the CCAA, HOLA provides soccer leagues for youth ages 6-19. In the fall, over 400 elementary and middle school aged boys and girls and high school boys participate in the Central City Soccer Association’s Leagues. In the spring, high school aged girls have the opportunity to join leagues along with over 200 elementary and middle school aged boys and girls. Each summer, HOLA hosts a tournament for high school soccer players. This weekend long event offers over 100 young men the opportunity to compete with teams from all over the City.

Omar Campos has been with HOLA for almost five years, as a student and now as a tutor and soccer coach. Every afternoon hundreds of kids, ages 6-19, are participating in over 75 academic and enrichment classes on HOLA’s campus. In addition to daily academic support from staff, tutors and volunteers, every afternoon HOLA students have the chance to explore opportunities they can’t get anywhere else, inside or outside of school. As spring classes winded down, the LA84 Foundation, Nike and Chivas USA hosted a soccer clinic for 140 Heart of Los Angeles youth. Kids from both HOLA’s Athletics Program and the YOLA at HOLA youth orchestra program participated in the clinic. The students learned moves from former and current players and coaches and even had a chance to play a few matches. As fall turned into winter, HOLA’s basketball and soccer leagues held their playoffs and crowned their champions. In partnership with LA City Department of Recreation and Parks, HOLA is able to offer Junior Jumpshot basketball leagues from Pee Wee through Middle School, with weekly practices and games for 185 young athletes. Heart of Los Angeles is thrilled to welcome back alumna Maria Cabrera as a soccer coach and the instructor of HOLA’s Play Soccer club. Maria comes to HOLA through Coach Across America, a program of Up2Us. On a beautiful, sunny, but not too hot Saturday, HOLA’s Athletics Program held their 6th Annual Summer Cup, a soccer tournament held at Lafayette Park for kids ages 9-11. The sidelines were packed with proud parents, families and friends who came to root for the young soccer players.
