Program Mission: Rites of Passage Encounter (ROPE) high school program prepares youth for post-secondary advancement by providing academic support, preparation for college, personal guidance and pathways to achieve their life goals.

ROPE strives to revitalize students’ attitudes towards education, increase students’ grade point averages, motivate students to pursue post-secondary educational opportunities, increase respect for diversity and promote self-empowerment. Each year, over 150 high school students participate in college prep and SAT review classes, individual and group tutoring sessions, financial literacy classes and a variety of enrichment classes that include graphic design, entrepreneurship, mixed media, leadership, screen printing, sewing/fashion design, fine arts, sports conditioning, creative writing, photography, computer repair, exploring relationships, film appreciation and ceramics. Last year, 48 ROPE seniors graduated from high school and all 48 of these students are now going to college! Cumulatively, over the last two years, HOLA has maintained a 100% graduation rate and  94% of these students matriculated to college.

Program Goals:

  • Achieve 90% rate of high school graduation
  • Increase grade point averages by at least one letter grade in Math and English
  • Increase SAT scores by an average of 10%
  • Achieve at least a 75% annual rate of admission to and retention in 4-year universities, colleges and trade schools.

It always amazes me how attentive these kids are considering the topic of our conversation. It’s not about shoes, Facebook or the latest movies coming out; the [...]
