HOLA on YouTube

After a successful internship with Walt Disney Studios in Burbank already under his belt, HOLA alumni Daniel Lopez is well on his way to achieving his goals of graduating college and using media skills to empower his community. A native Angeleno, Daniel attends California State University of Los Angeles where he studies Communications and Marketing. He is excited to return to his roots as the current Scholar in Residence, a yearlong position offered to an exceptional alum enrolled in college who has demonstrated a desire to give back to the HOLA community. As Scholar in Residence, Daniel will assist the College Success and PAT High School programs, working alongside HOLA staff to conduct workshops and special projects, and mentor HOLA youth. Daniel views this position as an opportunity to do what he loves most: “inspire people, create change, and be part of a group of people who have good intentions.”

Our staff couldn’t be happier to have him on board. “I love that Daniel has great insight and ideas on what what alumni need and offers these ideas to help the College Success program better serve both the PAT seniors and alumni,” says Ashley Frohlich, our scholarship coordinator. “Plus, he comes in every day with a positive attitude and willingness to learn from everyone at HOLA.”

Kevin Franco, director of our College Success program, adds, “Daniel is always looking for opportunities on how to gain new skills, learn new trades, and how to ultimately start his career. He is definitely driven by passion and determination, and I have no doubt he will succeed in all of his endeavors.”

Daniel believes it is important to help those who have helped him, and that the most rewarding part of working at HOLA is being able to implement new ideas that will contribute to its growth. “My goal at HOLA is to help the organization grow.  As an alum, I know what it feels like to be on the student side of HOLA and how valuable HOLA is to these kids.  I want them to continue to have an amazing place like HOLA, and continue to perform and believe in themselves.”

When Daniel is not studying or working, he enjoys playing basketball, taking pictures, and spending time with his parents.  His goal after HOLA is to continue to motivate and inspire youth. “I want to create opportunities for the people that need them most.”
