HOLA on YouTube

GraduationOn a beautiful June evening, Heart of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks held the 5th annual Community Graduation, celebrating the accomplishments of elementary, middle, high school, college AND graduate school graduates in the Rampart District of Los Angeles. This year, 63 young men and women graduated from HOLA’s high school program and 95% of the graduates will be heading this fall to colleges and universities all over the country. Matt Toledo, the Publisher and CEO of the Los Angeles Business Journal, delivered the keynote address. Matt recently completed a bike ride across the United States, raising funds along the way for HOLA and a veteran’s organization. Matt shared with the students the extraordinary experiences he had along the way. Shushoma Sravostee was chosen by the high school staff to speak on behalf of the graduating seniors. Shushoma shared her appreciation for HOLA and the support she received during the college application process. She also spoke of the impact that the social justice focus of the program has had on her and her desire to take that with her when she heads to UC San Diego in the fall. The festive celebration included musical performances by HOLA’s String Quartet, the marching of the color guard and presentation of certificates to all of the graduates.
