HOLA on YouTube

Remi MateoRemi Mateo has been volunteering with HOLA for almost a year as a Mentor to PAT high school seniors. As a mentor, Remi is paired with seniors, helping them with college essays and college and financial aid applications. As an alumnus of Virgil Middle School and Belmont High School, Remi values the importance of giving back to local youth. Remi has had a great experience as a mentor and is excited to see them grow as leaders and make an impact on their community in the future.

In addition to volunteering at HOLA, Remi is also a member of Voces Latinas, a chapter of Toastmasters International. Together with fellow members, Remi has introduced Toastmasters’ Youth Leadership Program to HOLA. Through the program, students develop their leadership and communications skills. During the winter session, several high school students participated in the program, actively participating in weekly meetings, giving speeches and evaluating the speeches of their peers. Remi loves hearing the students’ speeches and watching them grow as they share their own life experiences and learn to express themselves more effectively.
