HOLA on YouTube

The Junior League of Greater Los Angeles recently hosted a literacy event for HOLA’s SmartStart Elementary School Program. The event featured a reading of How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman and included several other fun and engaging activities centered around the book and its themes of culture and geography.

In addition to a read-along with the students and their parents, the kids learned how to make a healthy version of apple pie using english muffins, apple slices and apple sauce, created their own passports and even learned a new dance. After the event, students received a goody bag filled with books, healthy snacks and a complimentary membership to LACMA. Over 20 SmartStart students and their families participated in the event.

HOLA was selected as one of a number of sites that participated in several literacy events held by the Junior League to support their efforts to promote literacy in the community.

Thanks again to the Junior League for their wonderful partnership over the years!
