HOLA on YouTube

Alumna Anjelica Alarcon has been a standout student from the moment she walked through HOLA’s doors. She was born and raised in the Philippines and immigrated to the U.S. three years ago. She was a very engaged high school student, graduating with a 4.0 GPA and representing her class as valedictorian. Throughout high school, she was involved in leadership and sports activities, serving as Vice President of her class and team captain for both varsity soccer and varsity track and field. In her senior year, she was chosen by the Posse Foundation as a Posse Scholar, a highly prestigious award that comes along with a four-year scholarship to college. The Posse Foundation works with students who show extraordinary academic and leadership potential and supports them on their college campuses to pursue personal and academic excellence through supportive teams of 10 students known as Posses.

Anjelica was extremely grateful for the support she received at HOLA and she chose to give back in a number of ways, including volunteering with the high school and athletics departments, hosting various trainings for HOLA juniors and seniors.

Due to her outstanding leadership and academic excellence, Anjelica received scholarships from Heart of Los Angeles, Posse Leadership, Clippers Foundation and BBCN Bank. Anjelica is attending Syracuse University and is planning on majoring in Health and Exercise Science, with a double minor in coaching and nutrition. She hopes to be a doctor focusing on physical therapy and one day open her own rehabilitation center.

After being a very active and engaged student in high school, Anjelica hopes to continue that path in college by studying abroad in Australia and Europe. And while the first few weeks of school have been a bit overwhelming and a big change from high school, we know that Anjelica will go on to do great things. As she says, after spending the next few years at Syracuse, she is going to come back to Los Angeles a better and stronger woman.
