HOLA on YouTube

Silvia Velazquez began coming to HOLA when she was in in the fifth grade and she loved it so much that she’s still here. Her time at HOLA has had a life long impact on her and her work with the kids, volunteers and teachers in the art department led her to pursue Studio Art degree in college. Silvia’s fondest memories of HOLA way back then are the interactions she had with both the other kids and the staff. Coming to HOLA was something she did with the kids in the neighborhood, many of whom she is still in touch with today.

After graduating from high school, Silvia went off to Colorado College in Colorado Springs. She had an incredible experience there, but felt the pull of family and the warm weather and came back to LA after she graduated. She spent her first year back as a volunteer, tutor and mentor right back here at HOLA. For the past six years, Silvia has been the Director of HOLA’s Bridges Middle School program. When she’s not busy helping her kids navigate the often difficult middle school years, Silvia loves to run, spend time with her family and her English bulldog, Sir Rocky. Last year, motivated by her students, Silvia completed the LA Marathon!
