Pedro Tale will be heading into 11th grade this fall with a new found confidence in his leadership ability thanks to Outward Bound. This summer, Pedro participated in a 14 day program, that included six days of rock-climbing and six days of backpacking through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Pedro said the program was the experience of a lifetime and that at first, it was a challenge to be in such an intense experience with strangers from all different cultures and backgrounds. But as the days went by, the group bonded through challenges and by the end, they came together as a group and developed deep friendships.

Through the experience, Pedro was also able to overcome his fear of heights by rock-climbing and repelling. He said that it taught him that fear is an opportunity and to not give up, even when he is facing a hardship. “Pedro was very much the heart of our group, and faced conflicts with an openness and willingness to learn which ultimately helped everyone come together in a new and more profound way,” said Soara Delouvre, one of the group’s leaders. Pedro is a member of HOLA’s PAT high school program and also participates in many of the leadership classes HOLA offers.
