Alumna Catherine Baltazar has been enjoying an amazing adventure in the South this summer! Catherine received a departmental grant from Wellesley College to participate in an internship in Brunswick, Georgia. She is interning for a coastal advocacy environmental group called One Hundred Miles. This opportunity has allowed her to do research on shoreline hardening policies, a major problem in the area. She has also been able to see the islands off the coast of Georgia and was able to participate in a behind-the-scenes tour at a sea turtle rescue center, where she saw her first Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtle.

Catherine recently received notice that she has been awarded a full scholarship to study in Quito, Ecuador this fall. She is very excited for this new adventure, especially because she has never traveled outside the United States. While there, she will be conducting research and continuning her education in environmental studies.

Catherine is entering her junior year at Wellesley College and is majoring in Environmental Studies and Cinema and Media Studies.
