Alumna Adelina Aguillon has always been a firm believer that education is the key to success. Growing up in Los Angeles, she didn’t have much. While it was a major accomplishment for her to graduate from high school, that didn’t even compare to her being the first in her family to attend college. As a third year student at the University of California-Riverside, Adelina is studying Political Science with a focus on education policy.

Adelina’s hard work has paid off in major ways. She was admitted to UC-Riverside’s Leadership Pathway Program, a prestigious leadership development program that only admits the 20 most successful and distinguished students. Upon completion of the program, she will receive an award and be recognized as a Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow. She has also had the opportunity to work for Executive Officer Jefferson Crain of the Los Angeles Unified School District Board, as well as Tom Torlakson, the Superintendent for the California Department of Education in Sacramento.

This summer, Adelina will be completing a fellowship in Public Policy and International Affairs at the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, where she will be working with students from all over the country on domestic policy issues. While Adelina knows the program will be intensive, challenging and demanding, she also knows it will be fun and very rewarding.

In addition to all of Adelina’s hard work, she also had the opportunity to fulfill her life-long dream of visiting Europe by studying abroad in Madrid after her freshman year in college. While there, she became fluent in Spanish and learned to embrace cultural differences. Congratulations on all of your success Adelina, we know you will do great things in the future!
