HOLA on YouTube

The halls around Heart of Los Angeles are buzzing with the start of the Winter Session. The schools our kids attend are terribly under resourced and without HOLA, they would never be able to experience the breadth and depth of the classes we offer. Watch out! A group of elementary students are exploring science through the hands-on investigation of chemical reactions. High school students are keeping busy in a variety of classes, including a multi-media creative writing class, a service and leadership class and a number of students are working with our friends from LifeSail, building the 3rd HOLA sailboat! Budding artists are exploring photography using the Visual Arts Department’s new Media Lab or taking a Mixed-Media Sculpture class, just a few of the dozens of choices. The Music Department has added a new cello class and a Jazz Combo and students who can’t get enough during the week can come to HOLA on Saturdays to explore the world of Minecraft in the Computer Learning Center. And don’t forget the high school seniors. By now, all of their applications are in and they are hard at work completing their financial aid documents and applying for scholarships. To help ease the transition to college, periodically throughout the semester, HOLA alumni will return to HOLA to participate in roundtables with the seniors. Who better to answer all those questions about how to prepare for college than our very own HOLA alums. The first roundtable is scheduled for mid-January.

We welcome and encourage you to come visit Heart of Los Angeles to see first hand all of the exciting things that are going on, and if you have some spare time, why not volunteer?
