As fall turned into winter, HOLA’s basketball and soccer leagues held their playoffs and crowned their champions. In partnership with LA City Department of Recreation and Parks, HOLA is able to offer Junior Jumpshot basketball leagues from Pee Wee through Middle School, with weekly practices and games for 185 young athletes. HOLA partners with the LA84 Foundation and the Rose Hills Foundation to offer soccer leagues to over 250 kids on the recently renovated turf field at LaFayette Park. The soccer league welcomes athletes of all ages, from six year old Pee Wee players to high school seniors, most of whom attend area schools. Both sports leagues are free to the participants, and every athlete receives a uniform. At the end of the season, banquets were held to celebrate the successes and triumphs of all the athletes. Every participant received a medal and trophies were presented to the division champions.
Thank you to Bernard Hinson for sharing photos of the Junior Jumpshot League, and to all of the parents and community members who volunteered as coaches.
HOLA provides underserved youth with exceptional programs in academics, arts and athletics within a nurturing environment, empowering them to develop their potential, pursue their education and strengthen their communities.
