Words of Wisdom
I love days when I get special visits from alumni or students I used to teach. When they stop by to tell me about their day, to give me a hug, or just to say hello. I truly appreciate these moments. One day, during one of these special visits from some SmartStarters, I asked what the word “commitment” meant to them. “It’s a promise you make to yourself or others” said 5th grader Gilman. Then Jasmine, also in the 5th grade, chimed in and said “but it’s not a commitment unless you keep that promise that you make to yourself and others. It’s something you are always moving forward to.” Wow, talk about motivation! This semester I have learned a lot about time management and holding true to my commitments. I know that we are all busy. Please remember that you are also a member of our HOLA community and when you commit to coming back and giving back, it’s like a trickle down effect. Our younger students notice and look up to you. We love you and hope that you can find some time to visit soon. We are all so proud of you and wish you all the best for a great semester!
