HOLA on YouTube

Erica is one of HOLA’s Artist Mentors in Residence – an internship designed to provide students with the opportunity to continue to create art, apprentice with HOLA’s professional art instructors and mentor young artists. In her senior year of high school, Erica thought she wanted to go into the fashion industry. In search of a fashion design class, she stumbled upon HOLA and she hasn’t looked back since. Once she found her way to HOLA, Erica started taking all of the art classes she could possibly take and now she’s a freshman a Pasadena City College, double majoring in art and psychology.

Last summer, Erica was one of two HOLA students who were given the opportunity to travel to Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina for a two week residency. While there, she focused on photography. It was such a transformative experience that she is already saving up for a return visit next summer! Upon her return from Penland, Erica began her residency at HOLA. She works 10 hours per week as a teacher’s aid and as a tutor. She loves working with the kids and the impact HOLA is having on them. When she is able to help a student solve a problem, that is the most gratifying part of her job. Erica is thrilled to be able to work at HOLA, “[i]t’s good for the soul.”
