YOLA at HOLA at the Hollywood Bowl’s Opening Night
Members of HOLA’s Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA) at HOLA (YOLA at HOLA) took the stage with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra as part of Opening Night at the Hollywood Bowl. The evening was a benefit for the LA Phil and its education programs, including YOLA. The concert featured performances by the Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame inductees Reba McEntire and Chaka Khan. Legendary actress Julie Andrews hosted the evening and Gustavo Dudamel, via video, gave a moving introduction to the YOLA at HOLA Advanced Wind Ensemble.
The 35 member Advanced Wind Ensemble is made up of 10 and 11 year old students who joined YOLA at HOLA when it first started in the Fall of 2010. For their Hollywood Bowl debut, the Ensemble played Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No. 5″. The young musicians brought down the house and thanks to the generous support of the LA Phil, all of the participants in YOLA at HOLA and their families were able to attend the concert. The evening concluded with spectacular fireworks!
The evening was an incredible opportunity for the young YOLA at HOLA musicians to play with a professional orchestra on the famous stage of the Hollywood Bowl. The event raised more than $1 million for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s music education programs, and will forever remain in the hearts and the memories of the young musicians and their families.
