Heart of Los Angeles is thrilled to announce the launch of the HOLA Scholars in Residence Program, a year-long paid residency for HOLA alumni. The goal of the program is to provide two exceptional young men/women with the guidance and support of mentors, real-world job experience and the opportunity to invest in the community they grew up in. To be eligible for the Program, the students must be HOLA alumni, currently enrolled in college and have an interest in a career in education and/or social work. The students will serve as teaching assistants in the academic program of their choice, as well as provide ROPE High School Program staff with administrative and programmatic support. The HOLA Scholars in Residence Program is modeled after HOLA’s highly successful Artist Mentor in Residence Program. Thank you to The Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation
for their support of this exciting new program.
We are thrilled to welcome alumni Jenny Rios and Cenaida Juan to HOLA’s staff as our first two HOLA Scholars in Residence. Jenny, a sophomore at Los Angeles City College, will be working with the SmartStart Elementary Program and the Leadership Program. Cenaida, a freshman at Cal State LA, will be working with the ROPE High School Program and with Veronica Matos, HOLA’s Parent and Community Outreach Director.
