HOLA on YouTube

Mayely has been a regular figure on the basketball court since the Recreation Center re-opened last February. Since then, she has played on HOLA’s girls’ basketball team and volunteered her time coaching teams in HOLA’s Pee Wee leagues and the Summer Night Lights leagues. Mayely is personable and warm and when talking to this athlete you would have no idea that she struggles on a daily basis with anemia and asthma. But, that doesn’t keep her down, she makes every effort to run every day. She doesn’t follow a prescribed course. In her words, “I just go where the road takes me.”

Mayely graduated from high school in June and plans to attend college next fall. In addition to running, she loves to ride her bike and have fun with her friends. Basketball is her sport of choice and the athlete she admires most is Jerry West. Mayely still isn’t sure what she wants to do after she graduates from college, but right now she is considering nursing or the law.
