This spring, HOLA welcomed guest artist Frank Romero to the HOLA Art Studio and Gallery. Frank Romero has been making art in Los Angeles for the last 40 years. Originally from East Los Angeles, Frank became active in the Rampart District community after receiving a scholarship to study art at the Otis Art Institute. In 1974, he was a vital part of the first major exhibition of Chicano art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

While at HOLA, Frank Romero gave an artist talk about his career and experience living and studying in the Rampart District. Following his talk the students designed and built cars. As a native Angelino, car culture is a reoccurring theme in Frank’s work. The cars were assembled and painted during the workshop, and later the art students built a highway for the cars to travel on.
