Career and College Club has a remarkable impact on the student’s at HOLA. The club allows the students to focus on college and provide encouragement and support to each other. It enables students to take on responsibility for their future and acquire leadership qualities. The program offers our students remarkable support and encouragement in an environment where they are heard and respected.

One young student wrote this about the program: “The class changed my attitude toward education after high school because now I know I can attend college even if I am poor”.

Last fall, ALL Management Corporation invited HOLA’s 7th and 8th graders to join their Career and College Club program for the 2010-2011 academic year. Thirty middle school students participated in the clubs for over 25 weeks and completed their curriculum workbook.

Every week students became mentors to each other and learned about how to be a leader, the importance of knowing the A-G requirements, financial aid, scholarships, careers, and helping out the community. The goal of the class was to “empower students to take responsibly for planning and engaging in their own college and career road map”.

For two months the middle school students planned and prepare final presentations about college. Last Friday our students shared what they had learned about college with their peers and community. The 7th graders presented general information about college, while the 8th graders played the Game of LIFE to encourage other middle school students to think about college and their future.

Thank you ALL Management Corporation for giving our students this great opportunity! We look forward to offering the Career and College Clubs next year to our students. Next fall, the Bridges program will implement once again the Career and College Clubs, and 30 lucky middle school students will be selected to participate in the 2011-2012 academic year.
