Ana Baranda has been an integral part of the art department for the past 4 years. She started off as a student in our Summer Art Program and then went on to be our Artist in Residence. Ana has been the TA for all of our art classes, is the instructor for beginning drawing, and has been a force of inspiration for many of our students. She was also the recipient of the Adelman scholarship to Penland, and has gone for the past two years studying metal embossing and drawing.

While at HOLA, she has also been attending Santa Monica City College, where she was part of the Art Mentor program and founding member of the Santa Monica art club. She has also been a huge contributor to the Saturday art club at HOLA, where she has come every Saturday for the past three years.

She has exhibited her work at the Pacific Design Center, El Corazon gallery, Stanford University, and 18th street gallery.

While looking for colleges to transfer to, Ana was so inspired by her experience at Penland, she decided to look at schools in North Carolina. She then found Warren Wilson college in Asheville, one hour from Penland. Attracted by the location and dedication of its students, Ana was sure she found the spirit of Penland in this school, which was her first choice.

On behalf of HOLA and the art department, we are so proud of her!
